Lance Armstrong, M.S., LPCC, LADC

Lance is a licensed professional clinical counselor (LPCC) and licensed alcohol and drug counselor (LADC) with over 20 years of experience in the counseling field. Obtaining his degree in Professional School Counseling from Minnesota State University, Mankato in 2006, Lance continued to work in inpatient and outpatient adolescent addictions in conjunction with teens, their families, and schools. Lance joined SMSC in 2019 and works in both the Employee Assistance Program (ASPIRE) and the Specialty Clinic serving team members, Scott County Natives, and Community Members with caring and compassionate counseling services. Lance has completed training in EMDR, using mindfulness stress reduction approaches. Outside of work, Lance can be found with his wife and three children, playing music and riding motorcycles.

Cassandra Stewart, M.P.S., LADC, LPCC

Cassandra is a dually licensed professional clinical counselor (LPCC) and licensed alcohol and drug counselor (LADC). Cassandra earned her undergraduate bachelor’s degree in psychology with a minor in family studies from Metropolitan State University, and a master’s degree in Professional Studies and Integrated Behavioral Health from the University of Minnesota. Cassandra has experience as a crisis clinician who responded alongside EMT, Fire/Rescue, and police for emergency mental health assistance within the Community. Cassandra joined the SMSC in 2022 and works as an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) counselor at ASPIRE clinic serving employees, Scott County Native Americans, and Community Members. Cassandra is passionate about supporting clients towards improved mental well-being and believes in creating a space to explore the power of collaboration and growth. Cassandra is an enrolled member of the Bad River Band of Lake Superior Chippewa.

Tim Hanson, MSSW, LICSW

Tim is a social worker with over 20 years of experience assisting people of all identities and ages. Originally from the La Crosse, Wisconsin area, Tim served active duty in the United States Navy for four years before attending the University of Wisconsin, where he obtained an undergraduate degree in Community Health Education and received his Master’s of Science in Social Work (MSSW). Tim worked as a school social worker in the public school system for 20 years before joining the SMSC in July 2024. Additionally, Tim is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) in the state of Minnesota.

Shannon Willmott, Program Assistant

Shannon is a program assistant at the SMSC Aspire Clinic. She has seven years of experience working in the medical field and feels the Aspire team is where she is supposed to be. Shannon has a warm and caring demeaner and is passionate about helping others. She is a familiar face to many around the SMSC, as she previously worked in several other SMSC departments. Shannon and her husband are empty nesters, with five adult children and 12 grandchildren. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, shopping, and, of course, spending time with her grandchildren.

Oasis Calming Room

The Aspire team will soon be offering a Calm Down Space in Mystic Lake Casino Hotel for team members to visit. This space, complete with a massage chair and calming elements, will also offer team members the opportunity to receive skill-building tools in a safe, quiet space.
